Virtual Fitting Room for Topshop

AR Door teamed up with Topshop, a woman and man clothes retailer, to create a virtual fitting room for a new collection of dresses Dress up.

A special kiosk for the fitting room was installed at the flagman Topshop store in Moscow at the shopping centre European, 5-8 May 2011.

The virtual fitting room is built on the most sophisticated technologies: augmented reality and Microsoft Kinect. Augmented reality allows the customers to select a garment off the rack without having to try it on physically.  As a customer, you see yourself onscreen with a 3D copy of a dress. Kinect allows the user to control the program by simple gestures pushing virtual buttons right in the air.

To activate the program you don’t need special markers: the built-in camera tracks a person’s body and superimposes over it a 3D model of the dress.

A unique feature that allows the customers to watch both the front and the back parts of the dress was deployed in the Topshop fitting room for the first time in the world practice.

We would like to thank Topshop for that great opportunity to demonstrate the prototype of the fitting room in their store to the real customers and to get feedback from the latter.

If you are interested in virtual fitting room technology, please, contact Fitting Reality company at info@fittingreality.com

Damn, i had exact the same idea a few month’s ago. How did you get the meshes for the clothing? Did the Customer provide you with sewing patterns? And what is with the performance of the whole installment? Did the testers get a decent experience that was actually fun to use? Also do you see this device would work as a business model when someone develops a program that generates meshes from sewing patterns?

This is a really cool technology, can you keep me up to date with the development of this tech, my email address is provided, I would like to use this for our own stores, hit me up by email for a good chat, thanks!

Mark, This is really cool technology, but they are claiming this as a fitting room what is not exactly true, because the accuracy of measurements with Kinect extremely low, plus 3D assets preparation cost is extremely high. We are talking about $30-$50 per asset preparation cost and it will not solve the fitting problem. May be it will be more easy to go with Zugara solution webcamsocialshopper.com and with low price, easy to implement, accessible to all online users via their web camera. You may also see Zugara’s Kiosk solution at Fashion Week in New York on February 9, 2012. You may go online and see it at http://www.lazylazy.com.

Pity your software makes the people look FAT! I would recommend hiring a few new programmers. As a programmer myself, all I can say is: its not that hard!

I doubt people shopping in topshop appreciate being made out to look wider than they are.

Brought to my attention by this blog post: http://t-machine.org/index.php/2011/05/11/do-i-look-fat-in-this-you-do-now-kinect-fail/
I hope you take that guys advice on board, for your own (and tophops) sake!

  6. Dan says:

PS: you don’t have to let my previous post through moderation – simply forward the text on to whoever needs to see it and get somebody to fix the problem before rolling these things out to lots of stores.

Besides the issues mentioned, I think its a brilliant idea and (once fixed) expect it would be quite successful.

We have all the systems, Xbox, Xbox 360, paoastltiyn 2, paoastltiyn 3, PSP, DSL, Wii, Itouch and now new Xbox 360 Kinect (video games are my addiction) Positives about the new 360 with Kinect: -Supper easy to install (even if you never own an xbox before) -Has built in memory (old 360 didn’t) -You can add flash drives for even More memory (not xbox 360 memory card that cost $60, normal flash drive you can pick up for $20) -Has built in Wi-Fi nothing to install to connect xbox live (old 360 you had buy an antenna) -You can control the xbox main menu with your VOICE, say xbox, say game, voice command soo Neat and Easy, so if your controller battiers die no biggy just tell it what to do!! No controller needed. -Kinect games are way More Fun then Wii, my 65 yr old mother (grandma) was playing with the kids everyone was laughing, jumping and enjoyed it!! -Kinect games are easier then Wii for little kids but Fun for adults too. With Wii you have to hold the controllers just right for them to work, if you don’t flip your writs a certain way you’ll lose. My littlies one Never held the controller right on the Wii and had hard time scoring in games and would always lose. With Kinect there is NO controller, you use your body & voice to play, my littlies one had no problems and score more then his older brothers!! And my kids LOVE how Kinect takes pictures (Wii can’t) of them jumping during the game and then shows them the pictures, they were rolling on the floor laughing at themselves, mine never laughed that much playing Wii!! Negatives about 360 with Kinect You can NOT connect your old hard drive (not memory card) hard drive to the new 360 so you can’t carry your old stuff over to the new one I can’t think of any other negatives, we really enjoy it and can’t wait to buy more kentic games to play with Grandma and I plan on selling our Wii.
